Did I fall off the wagon? A little. I realized this was starting to have the reverse intended effect. Instead of finding new ways to be creative I was burning myself out and getting repetitive. I figured with a third of a year down I would take a couple weeks off to renew. I still plan to log 365 pieces, and within a year, so I’ll be making up by doing 2 or 3 a day when I return sometime next week.

Day 101 – My Star Wars 3

Several requests for a Vader piece to complete the trilogy.

Day 97 – Can you make me a logo?

…it’ll only take 5 minutes!

People who have said this to me: bosses, friends, friends of friends, cold query emails, anyone who thinks PaintShop Prop is a real design program.

Here are logos I have designed in five minutes. Some were used, most people realized I was being an asshole.

Day 94 – Untitled

Hey look, more decayed 90s style retro halftone print stuff. I think I need to put these tools away for now. Or maybe forever.

Day 79 – Solo

There was a time, pre publishing Empire, pre home video and pre Empire Strikes back when the ONLY other Star Wars you could get was a toy… or this book.

Day 78 – My Star Wars

Long story short too late.

Most people don’t associate Star Wars with the 70s anymore given how epic and sprawling it’s become. Aside from a brief period in the late 80s and early 90s, it’s been around forever now. For me though, I can’t disassociate the original Star Wars from being a kid in the 70s. And I don’t mean the disco days. I lived in a small rural town, and had a very young father. Every Star Wars discussion I heard in the first six years in my life happened in the back of a van, in a cloud of pot with Led Zepplin on the 8-Track.

To me, the original Star Wars makes me think of 70s hard rock, stoners and wanna be Frank Frazetta artwork airbrushed on the side of a panel van. This image is trying to capture that.

Day 54 – A Small Protest

Didn’t make them, just found, photographed.

Day 35 – Unbecoming

I think I went back to art school circa 1994.

Day 31 – Macho JR. Skateboard

Since the first one came out so well, I designed this one for my son’s impending birthday gift. He likes Legos, but he’s said he wants a “real” skateboard, not a toy one. Meaning, he knows a cool deck vs. a Toys R Us Disneyboard. Hopefully this will make him happy.

Day 20 – Macho Skateboard Revisted

Decided to have my skateboard design actually committed to a deck. These photos show it just assembled and pretty. It was acceptably scuffed and broken in two hours later.

Day 4 – Spaceman Blues

Spaceman by a famous artist

Everything else by me.

Day 3- I Am A Robot

  • robot: Oliver
  • video: Daddy
